Manhattan Liposuction | Risks of Liposuction

Risks of Liposuction

Liposuction in Manhattan is very popular which is no surprise to anyone I think. NYC is very stylish and the people there want to been as stylish and in shape. However there are risks with liposuction you should be aware of.

Once you decide that you’re going to go ahead with liposuction there is some basic research you should do before heading into surgery. Which Manhattan liposuction doctor will perform the surgery, which body part, how much fat to have removed and of course what risks are there to this cosmetic surgery. As with any surgery there are some risks involved in liposuction.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure and there is anesthesia involved as well as the invasion of your body. Both these factors introduce risks to the procedure. When undergoing liposuction they will inject a combination of lidocaine and epinephrine under the skin of the area that will be liposuctioned. This combination serves to both numb the area and to slow the bleeding in that area.

Your cosmetic surgeon will then make a small incision and insert a hollow instrument called a cannula into the incision. This is attached to a vacuum that sucks the fat out from the area being shaped. It is a very simple and common practice these days, but still caries some risks.

There is always the possibility of a reaction to the anesthesia as well as the risk of infection. Some patients have had complications due to interactions with other medications they are taking. Be sure to discuss any medications you’re currently taking with your surgeon and have him or her explain all the dangers to you fully.

There are several very common side effects from liposuction and these are bruising, swelling and misshapen areas. Of course there is always a risk that you won’t get the look you desire from your cosmetic surgery and that will require additional surgeries to correct. In addition some temporary numbness in the area are common as is scarring and wrinkles or loose skin.

It’s your health and your body so you should be sure to discuss any potential complications with your Manhattan cosmetic surgeon prior to your surgery. With a healthy patient and a good surgeon liposuction poses very little risk, but it’s always best to make a completely informed decision.
