Liposuction For Men Is On The Rise

Liposuction and all cosmetic surgery used to be considered a strictly female thing.  Now thanks to new techniques and technological advancements having cosmetic surgery performed is easier and safer than ever.  Perhaps for those reasons there are now large numbers of men trying out cosmetic surgery.  According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons liposuction for men accounted for 33,000 liposuction procedures in 2007.

Men want liposuction for the same reasons that the ladies do, to get a trim and sexy body that looks great both clothed and unclothed.  While it is true that men can lose weight more easily than women, they still have some fat deposits that will resist all efforts of exercise and diet.  Yes, men get love handles though no one loves them or wants to them there to hang onto.

Abdominal liposuction for men has increased greatly in the last few years because of these stubborn love handles.  For many men the only way to get a set of six pack abs is by having a liposuction procedure.

Another popular liposuction spot for men is the face.  This is a case of having no alternative because there are no exercises or diets that will get rid of facial fat.  It’s really amazing that several ounces of fat removed from a man’s jawline can make him look years younger.  Because of this men are having liposuction to get rid of double chins and to slim their jaw line.

Liposuction for men has also been a great help for those men suffering from the embarrassing condition of gynecomastia.  Gynecomastia an enlargement of the male breast due to excess fat and will seriously affect a man’s self-confidence and self-esteem.  With any minor gyncomastia liposuction has been used successfully to remove excess fat and return the breasts to a normal condition.

The fat removal during the liposuction process is done with a tool called a cannula, which is a thin tube that functions like a vacuum and is used to suck the fat cells out of the targeted body part.  There are a few different liposuction techniques that can be used depending on the severity of the deposited fat, the body part being treated,  and the patient’s condition.

There is no other way to spot reduce fat besides liposuction and even though the fat cells are removed permanently, if you won’t adopt new eating habits then new fat cells will form. So, a healthy diet and exercise plan should be adopted to keep your new look after your liposuction procedure.

It’s important to note here that liposuction for men is not a way to lose weight.  You should already be within twenty pounds of your goal weight and should be ready to maintain that weight after your liposuction.

Also be aware that there are risks associated with liposuction, as there are with any surgical procedure.  Scarring, excessive tissue removal, bleeding and infection can occur, although they are rare.  To keep your risk minimized, research your cosmetic surgeon before your surgery.  Only work with surgeons who are board certified and licensed to perform liposuction.  It’s also good if he has experience with liposuction for men.  The fact that you’re male doesn’t mean you have to live with your love handles. When diet and exercise fail it’s time to check out what liposuction can do to get rid of the spare tire.
